What is the Chamber?
The Chamber is an adaptation concept.
All scenes, characters and sub-plots unknown to the protagonist have been cut.
The text has been distilled and shifted.
For only what the protagonist knows and sees can be shown on stage.
This allows the play to follow and represent his consciousness alone.
Its performance style is remarkable for its extreme simplicity of staging.
Actors use different-coloured scarves to delineate and define characters; lighting is left simple and unchanged (augmented by candles); the actors themselves provide all music and sound effects; there are no realistic swords or swordplay; fabric, paper and wood are the only props; and the actors return into the audience to watch the play when they are not involved in any scene.
